Recklessly Loved
Luke 10: 1-24 10/05/2009

Luke 10:17-22

When Jesus send out the 12 disciples in chapter 9 and then the 72 followers in this chapter, I can’t help but feel re-energized as I remember the call He’s placed on my life as well!  It’s interesting that He tells them in both passages, to bring nothing with them as they go (probably a good piece of practical advice as well as spiritual, so they wouldn’t get robbed), but to depend on God and others fully; even as He models that for them in His life journey (Luke 9:57-62).  Also of interest to me, is their reaction upon their return.  The 72 came back in v.17 full of joy and excitement based off their experience of the power of God through them (which is an awesome and great thing), much like we do when God does something big in and though us!  And Jesus encourages their excitement in vs.18-19.  However, still full of joy and excitement (it’s cool to see Jesus pumped!).  He also re-corrects their focus from having power over what’s already been defeated, or what soon would be defeated, in Christ, to the One who’s able to detect evil; to the One True God!

  • What would Christ get excited over in my life?
  • What are some areas where I’m too focused on the defeated and not focused enough on the One who’s doing the defeating?
  • What extra baggage am I bringing along on this journey that is weighing me down or is a liability?

your question in one of your devo's on if we are looking more at the defeat in situations, rather than the one who is BEING defeated really hit me. it made me really question, am i looking for what God is doing or am i looking for what went wrong? you've made me realize that the battle is already won, the enemy is being defeated and death couldn't hold HIM down, nor can it hold me down. it cant hold cole down. he's still alive and living, living with the one who is the DEFEATER. thank you for your inspiring and encouraging words.

I too often focus on lesser things, things that have to do with me, instead of what Christ is doing. Thanks for re-pointing this out to me. It was a welcome reminder! You're AWESOME!!! keep up the Kingdom work!

Thanks for the sharing of those photos and painting works! I wonder whether you are thinking about posting a manual of HDRI? That will be helpful.

    Note from Jeremy

These devotional notes, thoughts, and questions are taken straight out of my daily Bible time.  For my devotional time in the Word of God, I  go through an Old Testament and New Testament book of the Bible, and as I do, I try to take a few brief notes with some questions to help stay disciplined, alert and challenged.  It also helps me go back and reflect on a passage that I haven't studied in a while as it serves as a devotional commentary on these passages.  So, I've decided to share some of my thoughts and questions on these passages here as they come out.  I hope you enjoy, and please feel free to comment.
